Chamber embarks on a new year; taking a moment to celebrate the past one.

Our AGM, President’s Night and Awards Ceremony was November 2nd, 2012 at the Highwood Golf and Country Club.

Rather than a sit down formal dinner the ceremonies have moved to a more informal, celebratory evening.

The evening is for the Chamber of Commerce Membership and guests to celebrate the past year, applaud the businesses that have been nominated Business of the Year and have an opportunity of a social gathering.

Other attendees included local dignitaries: Emile Blokland, Mayor of High River, councilors Don Moore, Jaimie Kinghorn, Tim Whitford; our current Board of Director members: Yousra Johma, Cheryl Merritt, Leighton Milliken, Barry Maruk, Monty Stafford; incoming Board members: Dave Jackson, Pat Orritt, Corrine Finnie, Todd Willams, Leslie Moffett, and Jason McCauley who were introduced to the membership. Outgoing Board members: Alan Bourne, Tom Taylor, Ann Boldt were also in attendance and received Certificates of Appreciation for their terms of service.

With yummy appetizers served by the Club, a wine tasting presented by Highwood Wine and Spirits, the evening began at 5:30 PM. The mix and mingle was followed by an address by His Worship, Emile Blokland who had glowing words of praise for the Chamber members and their accomplishments.

The following awards were presented:

Business of the Year, Category I (1-4 employees): Gitters Pub

Business of the Year, Category II (5-15 employees): Austen Jewellers

Business of the Year Category III (over 15 employees): High River Ford and Sun Country

The Community Spirit Award was presented to the Town of High River. Business & Tourism Department for the branding of High River as “The Home of Heartland”.
