Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Training

As our rural community welcomes an increasing number of immigrant families, fostering an inclusive environment within our local businesses becomes essential. The High River Library, FCIS and FLIP invite members of the business community to a DEI training program aimed at enhancing workplace culture, driving employee engagement, and improving business outcomes. This initiative is designed to appeal to all business owners—those who recognize the value of DEI as well as those who may have reservations.

DEI training is about encouraging open dialogue and understanding of diverse perspectives. Each business is asked to send only one representative to attend one of the three training sessions, accommodating varying schedules through in-person and online options.

Why DEI is Beneficial for All Businesses

  1. Enhanced Employee Engagement and Retention

    • Inclusive workplaces lead to higher employee satisfaction and morale.

    • According to a study by Deloitte, inclusive teams outperform their peers by 80% in team based assessments, resulting in improved productivity.

  2. Access to a Broader Talent Pool

    • With the influx of newcomer families, embracing diversity allows businesses to tap into a wider range of skills, experiences, and perspectives.

    • Research from McKinsey shows that companies in the top quartile for gender and ethnic diversity are 25% more likely to experience above-average profitability.

  3. Improved Customer Relations

    • A diverse workforce better understands and serves a multicultural customer base, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.

    • Businesses that prioritize DEI are often viewed more favorably by consumers, which can lead to increased sales.

  4. Innovation and Creativity

    • Diverse teams bring different viewpoints and ideas, fostering innovation. A Boston Consulting Group study found that companies with more diverse management teams have 19% higher revenue due to innovation.

  5. Community Reputation and Economic Growth

    • Businesses that prioritize DEI enhance their reputation in the community, attracting both customers and top talent.

    • An inclusive business environment supports overall community growth, driving economic development in our town.

Session Format:

  • Online Session: One session available to accommodate remote participation.

  • In-Person Sessions: Two sessions scheduled at the High River Library.

  • Duration: Each session will last approximately 2 hours.

  • Certificate: A certificate of completion will be awarded to all participants who complete a full session.

Facilitator:

A qualified DEI expert (Diversity Education Lead) who encourages open discussion and respects all viewpoints, ensuring a safe space for dialogue.

Conclusion

By participating in the DEI training, local businesses will not only enhance their own work environment but also contribute positively to our community's growth and cohesion. This initiative presents a valuable opportunity for collective learning and progress, making our town a welcoming place for everyone.
