2025 Candidate Q’s: Tricia Bliss

Thank you High River residents for taking the time to ask our 2025 Municipal Election Candidates the many questions before and at the All-Candidates Forum.

While we couldn’t get all the questions answered in person, we did go through the questions, remove the redundancy and have the Most Asked questions below that our candidates were invited to answer AFTER the forum.

Read on to learn more about your candidates and the issues that have been top of mind for our engaged citizens.

What does advocacy mean to you and how best do/will you practice this attribute of leadership?

To me, advocacy means being a strong and consistent voice for the people you represent — listening first, then speaking up to ensure those voices are heard where decisions are made. I will practice this by staying connected to the community, asking questions, and standing up for what reflects High River’s best interests and values.

What is your position on water conservation?

Water conservation is essential to protecting both our environment and our town’s long-term sustainability. I believe in balancing responsible growth with smart infrastructure, education, and policies that encourage efficient water use without placing unnecessary burdens on residents or businesses.

A lot of the candidates talk about local economy specifically; how do you plan to grow the economy?  And how do you plan to encourage sustainable growth?

A strong local economy starts with supporting the people and businesses already here. I believe in policies that make it easier to start, grow, and sustain local businesses while attracting new ones that fit our community. Sustainable growth means building for the future while honoring our roots — growing in ways that protect our small-town character, natural resources, and quality of life.

How do you plan on responding to the growing needs of the youth demographics (ages 10 to 16) of High River to help retain or bring them back when they become adults?

As a local business owner at MR MIKES, I see every day how important it is to create opportunities for youth — from first jobs to community connections. Supporting programs that build skills, confidence, and belonging helps young people see a future here. By investing in recreation, mentorship, and youth-focused initiatives, we can give them reasons to stay, grow, and one day raise their own families in High River.

With an aging population and increase in disabled persons in our town, what steps do you propose to ensure a meaningful life for all residents?

A meaningful life for all residents starts with accessibility, inclusion, and connection. We need to ensure our infrastructure, programs, and community spaces work for everyone — regardless of age or ability. By supporting accessible housing, transportation, and inclusive community programming, we help all residents stay active, engaged, and valued in High River.

What does urban sustainability mean to you?

Urban sustainability means planning and growing in a way that meets today’s needs without compromising the future. It’s about smart development — efficient infrastructure, green spaces, and responsible resource use — so High River remains vibrant and livable for generations to come.
