2025 Candidate Q’s: Andrew Adduono
Thank you High River residents for taking the time to ask our 2025 Municipal Election Candidates the many questions before and at the All-Candidates Forum.
While we couldn’t get all the questions answered in person, we did go through the questions, remove the redundancy and have the Most Asked questions below that our candidates were invited to answer AFTER the forum.
Read on to learn more about your candidates and the issues that have been top of mind for our engaged citizens.
What does advocacy mean to you and how best do/will you practice this attribute of leadership?
Advocacy is the main job attributed to any elected official, advocacy for the benefit of all people in the community. I practice this in my position on my companies employee association by bringing the issues I hear from other employees in the field to the office for review and to action appropriate responses.
What is your position on water conservation?
I believe that awareness is the best way to properly manage water conservation, making people aware of how their water use can affect the quality of water for the whole community and how hard overuse is on our infrastructure would help to ensure stability in our clean water supply.
A lot of the candidates talk about local economy specifically; how do you plan to grow the economy? And how do you plan to encourage sustainable growth?
I would open doors for large business to enter town. This must be done mindfully to prevent an overdeveloped commercial area in town, however bringing these businesses in select areas would increase local jobs, and retain/ attract retail shopping within town. Sustainable growth would need to be managed with well structured partnerships with developers to keep the feel we currently have in town.
How do you plan on responding to the growing needs of the youth demographics (ages 10 to 16) of High River to help retain or bring them back when they become adults?
Allowing larger businesses to open doors in town would allow for more of the part time job opportunities that currently exist in town to go to teenagers in town. Ensuring that we have many levels of housing that appeal to all budgets while having these jobs present in town would help retain or bring them back as adults. Providing children a promise of a sustainable future for themselves to build and grow a family in town.
With an aging population and increase in disabled persons in our town, what steps do you propose to ensure a meaningful life for all residents?
We need to increase parking space in the heart of town close to key facilities, and support a growth in healthcare.
What does urban sustainability mean to you?
It means ensuring our town can grow to accommodate the needs of our current residents without forgetting the needs of future generations that will call our town home.
