2025 Candidate Q’s: Maureen Moncrieff
Thank you High River residents for taking the time to ask our 2025 Municipal Election Candidates the many questions before and at the All-Candidates Forum.
While we couldn’t get all the questions answered in person, we did go through the questions, remove the redundancy and have the Most Asked questions below that our candidates were invited to answer AFTER the forum.
Read on to learn more about your candidates and the issues that have been top of mind for our engaged citizens.

What does advocacy mean to you and how best do/will you practice this attribute of leadership?
So far I have been an advocate for people. I have had people contact me with questions and I have brought them up at Coffee with Council and also at Council Meetings. I have listened to people of their concerns even before I decided to run for Council. I have my own business and can take the time to go to meetings that others can't.
What is your position on water conservation?
It is very important that we do have conservation of our water. It is a Valuable Resource that once it gone its gone. It is life.
A lot of the candidates talk about local economy specifically; how do you plan to grow the economy? And how do you plan to encourage sustainable growth?
I want to see an Economic Development Officer. We do need to have growth in our commercial / industrial lots that we have sitting empty. This is a great town and it would be nice if others can share in what we have to offer here.
How do you plan on responding to the growing needs of the youth demographics (ages 10 to 16) of High River to help retain or bring them back when they become adults?
For the kids aged 10-16 we need to help the Recreation Groups go forward with their dreams and to have them come to life. I have had a few meetings with a few groups in town and they need support and its not just money .I do think its good for kids to see the world and spread their wings but when its time to come back to the nest we have to have the opportunities here for them to have good jobs and have housing that is affordable for them.
With an aging population and increase in disabled persons in our town, what steps do you propose to ensure a meaningful life for all residents?
Down town , even though there was another Handicap Stall put in on 4th, I think we need a few more of them around. If people are to walk downtown and have a disability its hard for them. Especially since we don't have a lot of parking that is in front of the stores. Yes we have that parking lot off of Mcleod but some people cant walk that far .
What does urban sustainability mean to you?
A plan that takes into consideration what the people needs are, and also what the town needs too. Keeping the feel that we want to have as a Town.
