Alberta Chambers of Commerce Referendum Statement

"Albertans have given a clear answer on Question 10, and that clarity matters for every employer, investor and worker in this province.

We thank the high number of Albertans who made their voices heard at the ballot box, and the business leaders and Albertans who shared their perspectives through our research over the past two years. Their participation has helped us understand the concerns facing businesses and communities and bring those concerns directly to government.

The Chamber took no position on how Albertans should vote. We respect the result and recognize that many who voted to begin a separation process did so out of real frustration with how federal policy has impacted this province’s economy.

Those frustrations do not end with this vote. A result alone does not restore business confidence. Confidence returns when businesses have the certainty to revisit paused investment and hiring decisions, and that depends on what both governments do next.

Our message to the federal and provincial governments remains consistent: deliver on the federal-provincial framework, remove interprovincial trade barriers, advance the trade infrastructure needed to get Alberta products to market and provide a predictable regulatory environment that supports investment.

Albertans have had their say. Both governments must now demonstrate that they have heard them through practical action that strengthens Alberta’s economy and its future within Canada."
